Framing - Roof Tie In

Today we had a site visit from our structural engineer, Eric Bunkers of Mattson Macdonald & Young. He was on site to review the construction so far as well as provide some new insight on how to tie in the new roof with the existing. Ultimately, it was decided that the last girder truss would move back from the original position and the tie in would be hand framed as planned. This helps to maintain the existing roof slopes and minimizes the view of the addition from the street.

The bonus room above the garage is completely framed in and all trusses are set for both dormers. We revised the headers underneath the dormers to 3- 2x4's in order to keep the window head height consistant throughout. This way we'll be able to get a desk or storage under each window sill.

Skylight openings were cut into the roof trusses during fabrication. Once skylights are on site, then the rough opening will be framed and they will be set in place.
